1. £1,000 EMERGENCY FUND IN PREMIUM BONDS
£1,050/£1,000 ✅
This one I've actually done really well with! I was fortunate to get a bonus from work in January and I topped up my emergency fund to £1,000 and I haven't touched it since! I mentioned in the original post that I am ususally crap at saving and constantly dip into my pots, so to combat this I was going to put my emergency fund into premium bonds. Knowing that it takes a few days to pull out, my plan would be to pay for an 'emergency' on a credit card, withdraw the premium bonds and pay it straight off. So far, there hasn't been a need for me to pull these out (touch wood), and I've actually won £50 on one of the monthly draws! Here's to hoping I don't need to dip in and that I have some more luck on the draws!
2. OVERPAY THE MORTGAGE £100 PER MONTH
6/6 months ✅
I'm so proud that we've hit this every single month of this year so far. It's genuinely one of my favouirte things to do on the 1st of each month and tick it off the tracker. We're aiming to pay down as much as affordable at the moment, so that when we remortgage in 2025, we will be below the 70% loan-to-value figure, and therefore getting offered a better product and interest rate from the banks. Not only this, but by paying down £100 a month, we would be mortgage free 7 years earlier AND save c.£65k of interest - just on an extra £100! Absolute no-brainer for me! When we have finished paying off our debts, we will then begin to overpay the mortgage at a higher rate but for now this is suitable for our current circumstances.
3. CLEAR THREE DEBTS
1/3 months ✅
At the start of the year, we had one family loan and five credit cards on 0% interest between us that we are hammering on this journey. We do both have PCP car finance too but we're not counting that at the moment, so the aim was to clear three of the smallest debts over this year. Here is the progress so far:
January 2024
- A family loan - £1,990
- Virgin CC (1) - £2,005
- Barclaycard - £2,940
June 2024
- A family loan - £1,910
- Virgin CC (1) - £1,600
- Barclaycard - PAID OFF
4. MINIMUM £10K TO DEBT
£4.1k/£10k ðŸŸ
Not gonna lie, this one feels TOUGH. I was pretty confident at the start of the year, but as with life, things have just cropped up each month. I'm so proud that we've cleared £4.1k in 5 months and I know we are very privilaged to be able to do that, but I really do want us to fight to hit that £10k mark. Judging by my nerdy graphs, we should still do it but it will be tight but it will help us to be debt free at some point in 2025, latest 2026 so I know it's an important milestone.
5. SELL 200 ITEMS
175/200 ✅
I originally thought that this one would be the hardest goal to achieve, and I actually think it's been the easiest! Five months in and we've already sold 175 items, MENTAL. As I've mentioned before, I've spent my entire life being an absolute hoarder, whether that's clothes that I thought I'd eventually 'skinny into' or unwanted gifts that I've felt guilty about not liking, and I already feel SO much better by having this clearout and paying these earnings off our debt.
Here's to another 6 months of hard work to hit all of these goals! How are you tracking against your goals?
