1. £1,000 EMERGENCY FUND IN PREMIUM BONDS
£1,050/£1,000 ✅
I'm so proud of myself for this one. As a girl that could never have an emergency fund because she kept dipping into it, I feel like putting them in Premium Bonds has changed my life! I managed to fill my emergency fund back in January with a work bonus which I was very grateful for, and I haven't touched it since! Knowing that it takes a few days to pull out, my plan would be to pay for an 'emergency' on a credit card, withdraw the premium bonds and pay it straight off, however this So far, there hasn't been a need for me to pull these out (touch wood). In terms of winning anything, I only won £50, but this is better than nothing and I've re-invested it, so my emergency fund currently stands at £1,050!
2. OVERPAY THE MORTGAGE £100 PER MONTH
12/12 months ✅
12 out of 12 overpayments made on the mortgage this year. Super happy we've managed to keep this up and I know it will pay off in the long-run. It's genuinely one of my favourite things to do on the 1st of each month and tick it off the tracker. Our current loan to value sits at 67.9% so we know we'll get the interest deals for 70% LTV and less. The next target is 65% but we're not due to hit this until August 2027, so for now, it'd done what we set out to do.
3. CLEAR THREE DEBTS
2/3 ❌
We managed two out of three on this one, which I'm happy about but equally kicking myself. We would have paid the third one off by now...if we hadn't have booked two holidays (oops). I'm very much all for needing a break and it was very much needed. I also think life's too short, so book the holiday! Which is exactly what we did. I'm still very happy that we managed to pay two off, but the value of the third has gone up...
January 2024
- A family loan - £1,990
- Virgin CC (1) - £2,005
- Barclaycard - £2,940
December 2024
- A family loan - £0
- Virgin CC (1) - £0
- Barclaycard - £3,970
4. MINIMUM £10K TO DEBT
£10.7k/£10k ✅
WE DID IT!!! I never thought we'd be able to pay £10k off in a year, yet here we are! In total we paid £10,690 off our debt (I know we added to it also, but this is purely a count of every penny that went towards a credit card payment). This was done through salaries and side hustles - something that I will continue to push in 2025. After this, our current estimated payoff date is November 2026, versus the original date of November 2027, so I know we can absolutely do the same next year and knock this back further.
5. SELL 200 ITEMS
211/200 ✅
Yayyyy! Another one complete! I originally thought that this one would be the hardest goal to achieve, and I actually think it's been the easiest! I slowed down on the selling towards the end of the year but I managed to clear out 211 items and make £701.20 from doing so - all which went towards the debt payments! As previously mentioned, I've spent my entire life being an absolute hoarder, whether that's clothes that I thought I'd eventually 'skinny into' or unwanted gifts that I've felt guilty about not liking, and I already feel SO much better by having this clear-out and paying these earnings off our debt.
Here's to another year of working towards our financial goals!
